Joop (Dutch) is married to Suna (Korean) and they live together in The Netherlands. He works at Sanoma Digital.

Background:

Joop (1983) grew up in Geldermalsen, a village in the middle of the Netherlands.

During his IT study in Amsterdam, he started working at web development company Mirabeau in Amsterdam and later did an intern at citigroup in Barcelona.

After attaining his bachelor, Joop moved to Sweden and later achieved a master degree in business administration. During this study, he actually met his wife, Suna, who inspired him to move to South Korea for an exchange study at Korea Development Institute (KDI) in Seoul, followed with an intern at ING insurance South Korea.

Joop likes China, with a first visit in 1999 at 16 years old. He went back to China after graduating to work for Marc van der Chijs at Spilgames as Business Development Manager, where he evaluated Chinese MMORPG social web/Flash games for the west. In 2010, Joop was CTO at apparel site Unitedstyles.com making it into the finalist of techcrunch disrupt.

After five years abroad, Joop moved back to Europe in 2012 and joined Sanoma Digital, the largest media company based on reach in the Netherlands. As Architect he is involved with key assets for the company.

In his free time, Joop likes to study Korean, cook and practice ping-pong, speed skating and jogging. He blogs about the Technology, Asia and media, with articles published on thenextweb.com and readwriteweb.
